For Black History Month we want to enlighten you on things you may not know and give you a sense of pride. We start off with Toussaint L’Ouverture. I am sure when you read your history book in school you have heard of the mighty Napoleon Bonaparte did you know the French leader was defeated and ran out of Haiti by Toussaint L’Ouverture was a former slave? That’s right Haiti who is poverty ridden now is a country founded by free slaves rising up against their oppressors and throwing them out. As an American you normally align Haiti with poverty and voodoo but the island nation is a beacon of hope of what can happen when you stick together and belive in your self-worth. L’Ouverture was betrayed by Bonaparte when he came to the negotiation table for Haiti’s independence and was taken into custody by the French and later died but what he set into motion not only gave Haiti its birth as a free country but also was the catalyst for the Louisiana Purchase. Read up on L”Ouverture here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toussaint_Louverture and tell us what you think about the Slave turned revolutionary in the comments or @mediamyxx @akireshenri and please learn YOUR history it’s not in book you read in school.
